The PRK, or photorefractive keratotomy is a type of laser eye surgery to correct lower degrees of myopia and astigmatism. The PKR, unlike Lasik, does not create a tab before the laser is used to cut and separate the eye. In a few cases, surgeons prefer to use the PRK in that it avoids the complications caused by the tongue (not to mention the scarring and post operative discomfort). The PRK procedure is implemented as a refractive surgery by a surgeon.
There are several processes that must achieve before they practiced cjhirurgia PRK. Your doctor will carry out a full eye examination and ask you a complete history of your eyes. During this examination the doctor will determine if you are good candidates for PRK. The examination should include:
- Consideration of expansion to check ocular irregularities.
- refractive error measurement.
- Measure the thickness of the cornea and pupil.
- topographic map of the cornea.
- Analysis of tear function.
- Discussion on your medical history, lifestyle and expectations of the PRK.
